Basketball Recap: Vassar Takes a Loss

Vassar was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They took a 73-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bad Axe Hatchets. While losing is never fun, the Vulcans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 463rd, while the Hatchets are ranked 211th).

When it comes to explaining why Vassar lost, don't look at Austin Long. Despite the final result, he went 7 for 14 en route to 28 points and five assists. What's more, Long also racked up two blocks, the most he's had since back in January of 2024. Brayden Rondo was another key player, putting up six points.

Long wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Vassar was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive games.

Vassar now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Bad Axe, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vassar will head out to square off against Laker at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Vassar is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.8 points per game this season. Bad Axe has already played their next contest (against Unionville-Sebewaing), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
