Baseball Game Preview: Augusta Orioles vs. Wellington Crusaders

The Augusta Orioles will head out on the road to challenge the Wellington Crusaders on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Augusta is headed into the game having just posted their closest win since April 15, 2024 on Monday. They skirted past Rose Hill 5-4. Five seems to be a good number for the Orioles as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Augusta let Dalton Apel and Mason Skov run wild. Apel went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple and one run, while Skov got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Apel has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxson Wheeler, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Augusta always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Wellington hadn't done well against Mulvane recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Crusaders walked away with a 7-4 win over the Wildcats.

Wellington is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Augusta, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-11.
