Preview: Monarch Knights vs. Coral Springs Colts
Monarch is 1-9 against Coral Springs since January of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Monarch Knights will head out on the road to take on the Coral Springs Colts at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Monarch focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Tuesday.
Monarch unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak. The matchup between Monarch and Northeast wasn't particularly close, with Monarch falling 56-42. While losing is never fun, Monarch can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 357th, while Northeast is ranked 58th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Jamir Davis, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Samari Reed was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Coral Springs waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with eight straight wins but they left with nine. They strolled past Cypress Bay with points to spare, taking the game 73-54.
Monarch's loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Coral Springs, they pushed their record up to 15-3 with that victory, which was their eighth straight at home.
Things could have been worse for Monarch, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 69-50 loss to Coral Springs in their previous meeting back in December of 2021. Can Monarch avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
