Soccer Game Preview: Falls Lake vs. Research Triangle

The Falls Lake Firebirds will take on the Research Triangle Raptors at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Falls Lake's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for three straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

On Monday, Falls Lake came up short against Raleigh Charter and fell 3-1.

Meanwhile, after soaring to nine goals the game before, Research Triangle was a bit more limited in their match on Monday. They lost 9-0 to Franklin Academy. While losing is never fun, Research Triangle can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 394th, while Franklin Academy are ranked 13th).

Falls Lake's defeat dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Research Triangle, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 11 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-11-1 record this season.

Falls Lake beat Research Triangle by a goal in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 2-1. Do the Firebirds have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Raptors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
