Basketball Recap: Progreso Takes a Loss

After flying high against IDEA Frontier College Prep last Tuesday, Progreso came back down to earth. The Progreso Red Ants were just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 35-34 to the IDEA Riverview Rockets. The Red Ants were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Rockets earlier this season, when they won 38-36.

When it comes to explaining why Progreso lost, don't look at Julio Resendez. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 12 points and 18 rebounds. Resendez is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down ten or more in the last 17 games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mathew Zuniga, who posted three points in addition to six assists and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Progreso smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

IDEA Riverview found their leader in sophomore Oziel Escobedo, who earned 20 points.

Progreso's record now sits at 13-19. As for IDEA Riverview, their record is now 10-11.

Progreso wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 75-27 loss against Lyford on the 10th. As for IDEA Riverview, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 58-48 defeat against IDEA Sports Park on the 10th.
