Basketball Game Preview: Coventry Comets vs. Marlington Dukes

The Coventry Comets will venture away from home to face off against the Marlington Dukes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Coventry knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matchups -- so hopefully Marlington likes a good challenge.

Coventry will bounce into Friday's game after beating Norton, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Coventry was the clear victors by a 65-44 margin over Norton on Friday. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 40-16.

Coventry got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Alex Meinen out in front who went 9-for-16 en route to 24 points and four steals. The matchup was Meinen's sixth in a row with at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Kameryn Kennerly, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 11 boards.

Coventry was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Meanwhile, Marlington lost to Garfield Community Learning Center on the road by a 79-64 margin on Friday.

Coventry is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. As for Marlington, their loss dropped their record down to 13-9.

Coventry came up short against Marlington in their previous matchup back in February of 2020, falling 72-60. Can Coventry avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
