Recap: Sonoran Science Academy vs. Brighton Charter Tigers
Sonoran Science Academy's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their sixth straight loss. They fell just short of Brighton Charter by a score of 45-43. Sonoran Science Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Brighton Charter apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Brighton Charter can attribute much of their success to Jaziel Nunez, who scored 20 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Nunez has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Mastrapasqua, who scored nine points along with 12 rebounds and two steals.
Sonoran Science Academy bumped their record down to 1-7 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.0 points per game. As for Brighton Charter, their win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-6.
Sonoran Science Academy won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Our Lady of the Sun Academy at 6:30 p.m. on January 23rd. As for Brighton Charter, they will head out on the road to square off against Jefferson Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Jefferson Prep is ranked 291st, while Brighton Charter is ranked 272nd).
