Basketball Game Preview: Caldwell Redskins vs. Shenandoah Zeps

The Caldwell Redskins will face off against the Shenandoah Zeps at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Caldwell is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against River on Monday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Caldwell had to suffer through a 54-20 loss at the hands of River. The loss continues a trend for the Redskins in their matchups with the Pilots: they've now lost four in a row.

Despite their defeat, Caldwell saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Colie Arick, who posted seven points and four steals, was perhaps the best of all. The dominant performance also gave Arick a new career-high in boards (three).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Shenandoah). In a tight match that could have gone either way, they made off with a 58-57 victory over Barnesville.

Shenandoah's win came from a few key players Caldwell will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Emily Moore, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten steals. Her evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brenna Leach, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 boards.

Shenandoah pushed their record up to 3-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.7 points per game. As for Caldwell, they now have a losing record at 3-4.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Caldwell has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 24.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Shenandoah struggles in that department as they've been averaging 33.8 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Caldwell beat Shenandoah 49-37 when the teams last played back in January. Will Caldwell repeat their success, or does Shenandoah have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
