Baseball Recap: Western Christian Extends Winning Streak to Three

Western Christian extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday, bumping their season record up to 10-11 in the process. Everything went their way against the Hesperia Christian Patriots as they made off with an 8-1 win. This was payback for the Fighting Lancers, who suffered a 6-0 loss the last time these two teams met.

Owen Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up 16 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Will Stradley, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one double. Western Christian is 5-2 when Stradley posts two or more runs, but 5-9 otherwise.

As for Hesperia Christian, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 12-11 record. They were red-hot at the plate heading into the game (they scored no less than ten runs in the four matches prior), but Western Christian's pitchers proved too tough.

On Hesperia Christian's side, they saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nathaniel Renner, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.

As of now, neither Western Christian nor the Patriots have any future games scheduled.
