Baseball Preview: Emmett Huskies vs. Skyview Hawks
Emmett is 0-7 against Skyview since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Emmett Huskies will head out on the road to square off against the Skyview Hawks at 3:00 p.m. After both teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Friday.
Last Tuesday, Emmett made easy work of Caldwell and carried off an 8-1 victory. The win was just what Emmett needed coming off of a 7-1 loss in their prior match.
Bryson Kellam spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, Ryder Sheibe was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 4-for-4. Another player making a difference was Jase Bade, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Skyview waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with nine straight wins... but they left with ten. They put the hurt on the Falcons with a sharp 16-4 victory. Skyview might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won seven games by seven runs or more this season.
Joe Bernal looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (he also didn't allow any walks). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive pitching appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Grady Daniels, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Tyler Russell was another key contributor, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs and a triple.
Emmett's record is now 4-8. As for Skyview, their win was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-1.
Emmett couldn't quite finish off Skyview in their previous meeting back in May of 2023 and fell 7-5. Thankfully for Emmett, Dylan Gonzalez (who didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched) won't be suiting up this time.
