Baseball Game Preview: Lynn Bears vs. Sulligent Blue Devils

The Lynn Bears will take on the Sulligent Blue Devils at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Lynn's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Sulligent's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Lynn and Hubbertville, and Hubbertville kept the tradition alive. Lynn took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hubbertville on Thursday. The game marked the Bears' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sulligent). Everything went their way against Carbon Hill last Thursday as Sulligent made off with a 14-7 win. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Blue Devils as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Ethan Stiles was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits. Stiles was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Wyatt Sandlin was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. Will Barnett was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Sulligent was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Sulligent's win bumped their record up to 3-7. As for Lynn, their loss dropped their record down to 15-3.

Lynn suffered a grim 14-0 defeat to Sulligent in their previous meeting back in March of 2022. Can Lynn avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
