Softball Recap: Brookhaven Victorious

Brookhaven hadn't done well against Pearl recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Panthers won by a run and slipped past the Pirates 16-15. This was a revenge game for the Panthers: when they faced off against the Pirates back in February, they had to take a 10-6 loss.

Brookhaven got a massive performance out of Jayonna Pendleton, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most hits Pendleton has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Mia Lee, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.

Brookhaven always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They are a perfect 14-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for Brookhaven and bumps their season record up to 16-10-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games. As for Pearl, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-13 record this season.

Brookhaven and Pearl are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Panthers will square off against East Central on the 24th. Brookhaven's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hornets have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season. As for Pearl, they will host Meridian at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.33 runs per game on average), something the Pirates will no doubt try to take advantage of.
