Cardinal took a three-set loss the last time they faced off against St. John, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Huskies won by a set and slipped past the Fighting Herald 3-2. The win was nothing new for the Huskies as they're now sitting on ten straight.
Cardinal wouldn't go down easily and took St. John into a fifth set where they got it done with a five-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 26-24, 25-17, 16-25, 19-25, 15-10.
Leading Cardinal to victory were Adelyn Grant and Maggie Grant. Adelyn had 38 digs and one assist, while Maggie had 18 digs. Those 38 digs gave Adelyn a new career-high.
St. John's loss on Tuesday came despite strong showings from Katie Carney and Sara Ducro. Carney had 13 digs and one assist, while Ducro had 34 digs and one assist. Carney has been hot recently, having posted ten or more digs the last three times she's played. Lilliana Mather also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.
Cardinal's victory bumped their record up to 16-1. As for St. John, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-3.
