Basketball Game Preview: Academy of Richmond County Musketeers vs. West Laurens Raiders

The Academy of Richmond County Musketeers are taking a road trip to challenge the West Laurens Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Academy of Richmond County is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.

Last Tuesday, Academy of Richmond County earned a 51-44 victory over Aquinas. Given the Musketeers' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 211th, while the Fightin' Irish are ranked 423rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Academy of Richmond County can attribute much of their success to NaCja Johnson, who posted 16 points. The matchup was Johnson's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Amari Butler, who earned 12 points.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 60 points the game before, West Laurens was a bit more limited in their game on Tuesday. They took a blow against Cross Creek, falling 78-11. The contest marked the Raiders' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Academy of Richmond County is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a massive bump to their 14-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.5 points per game. As for West Laurens, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 15 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-17 record this season.

Academy of Richmond County didn't have too much breathing room in their match against West Laurens in their previous matchup back in January, but they still walked away with a 65-61 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was West Laurens' Brooklyn Jackson, who went 11 for 13 on her way to 26 points.
