Basketball Recap: Sunrise Mountain Gets the Win

If Chaparral wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Sunrise Mountain, they should've done a better job of containing Addison Wiemann. The Sunrise Mountain Mustangs enjoyed a cozy 53-39 victory over the Chaparral Firebirds on Wednesday thanks in part to Wiemann, who made all 8 shots she took racking up 17 points and six rebounds. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in assists (four).

Despite the defeat, Chaparral saw an underclassman step up: freshman Kaelie Weishaar went 7 of 15 on her way to 18 points and six steals. Those six steals set a new season-high mark for Weishaar. Another player making a difference was Hailey Donarski, who posted 14 points and five rebounds.

Sunrise Mountain now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Chaparral, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.

Sunrise Mountain didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 53-33 win against Horizon on the 29th. As for Chaparral, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 55-20 loss against Highland on the 29th.
