Redbank Valley quarterback sets Pennsylvania single-game passing record.
Jake Dougherty of Redbank Valley (New Bethlehem, Pa.) became the first player in Pennsylvania history to throw for over 600 yards in a game as he completed 40 of 69 passes for 614 yards and seven touchdowns in 58-46 loss to Clarion Area (Clarion, Pa.).
Dougherty's performance was unable to offset the rushing effort of Ian Corbett of Clarion Area as he carried 31 times for 397 yards and five touchdowns. Their two performances highlight this week's MaxPreps National High School Football Stat Stars.
Dougherty breaks the state record previously held by Derek Buganza of Brockway, who threw for 594 yards in 2009.
Dougherty was one of two quarterbacks to throw for over 600 yards last week as Lake Nona's Tucker Israel accomplished the feat for the second straight week with 630 yards in a win over Celebration.
In a rare feat, Penney (Hamilton, Mo.) had a running back and a receiver both make the stat stars list. Kellen Overstreet rushed for 372 yards in a 68-16 win over Princeton (Mo.) while his teammate, receiver T.C. East, caught 4 passes for 219 yards and four touchdowns.
A matchup in California between Tulare Union and Porterville produced two of the top rushers of the week. Romello Harris of Tulare Union ran for 402 yards while opponent Isaiah Jones gained 345 yards for Porterville.
Jared Reagan of Booker (Texas) moved into a tie for third place all-time on the national receptions list as he caught 10 passes for 225 yards last week. He now has 357 catches in his career, tying him with Trey Quinn of Barbe (Lake Charles, La.). Reagan needs two receptions to pass Davis Howell of Christian Academy of Knoxville (Tenn.) for second place.
Reagan's teammate, Hunter Lile, became the all-time leader in passing completions and passing attempts in Texas. Lile has 982 completions and 1,587 attempts. Drew Tate of Baytown Lee held the previous records with 970 completions and 1,576 attempts. Lile ranks 7th all-time nationally in both completions and attempts.
