Baseball Recap: Crystal City Finds Home Field Redemption Against Dilley

There's no place like home for Crystal City, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. Everything went their way against the Dilley Wolves on Tuesday as they made off with a 12-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Javelinas in their matchups with the Wolves: they've now won seven in a row.

Christopher Mena was a major factor no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Abraham Martinez was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. He has become a key player for Crystal City: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 7-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Eric Garcia, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Crystal City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .679. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dilley only posted an OBP of .118.

Crystal City's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-10. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Dilley, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-12.

Coming up, Crystal City will square off against Marion at 5:00 p.m. on May 2. Dilley does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
