Preview: Sandhills Valley Mavericks vs. Maxwell Wildcats
The Sandhills Valley Mavericks will head out on the road to take on the Maxwell Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with 19 consecutive losses dating back to last season for Sandhills Valley and four for Maxwell.
Sandhills Valley suffered their biggest defeat since December 5, 2023 on Tuesday. They took a serious blow against Sandhills/Thedford, falling 55-8. Sandhills Valley was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 26-4.
Meanwhile, Maxwell was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 34-29 to Brady.
Despite the defeat, Maxwell got a solid performance out of Jocelyn Cheek, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and six blocks. Another player making a difference was Kristyn Cheek, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Sandhills Valley bumped their record down to 0-11 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Maxwell, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.
Sandhills Valley beat Maxwell 42-33 in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sandhills Valley since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
