The Ellis Railroaders are taking a road trip to face off against the Ellinwood Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Ellis had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Scott on Friday. The Railroaders were the clear victors by a 12-3 margin over the Beavers. The result was nothing new for the Railroaders, who have now won ten matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Aiden Aschenbrenner was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavyn Wildeman, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.
Ellis was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .393 or higher in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Ellinwood made easy work of Kinsley on Thursday and carried off a 12-6 win. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Coyotes recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Drake Hosman and Cohen Gunn made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Hosman struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. Meanwhile, Gunn pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Ellinwood is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 5-9 otherwise. At the plate, Hosman went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Gunn got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Banks Jacobs was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.
Ellis has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games. As for Ellinwood, their record now sits at 8-10.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Ellis has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .552. However, it's not like Ellinwood struggles in that department as they've averaged .453. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Ellis couldn't quite get it done against Ellinwood in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 9-5. Can the Railroaders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
