Washington Academy had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Machias Bulldogs on Thursday. The victory was nothing new for the Raiders as they're now sitting on 18 straight dating back to last season.

Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Washington Academy took every set by at least 14 points. The match finished with set scores of 25-5, 25-9, 25-11.

Washington Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ad?la Ondrou?kov? led the charge by getting nine aces and one block.

Ondrou?kov? wasn't the only good server: Washington Academy was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 27 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in 18 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Washington Academy and Machias will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Raiders are set to face off against their familiar foe Mount Desert Island at 6:00 p.m. on the 13th. Meanwhile, Machias will take on rival Sumner at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
