Basketball Recap: Piedmont Gets the Win

Piedmont won the last time they faced San Leandro and things went their way on Friday too. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, the Piedmont Highlanders made off with a 61-60 victory over the San Leandro Pirates. Given the Highlanders' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 334th, while the Pirates are ranked 696th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Piedmont has also been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-10 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.8 points per game. As for San Leandro, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-18.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Piedmont will venture away from home to challenge Bishop O'Dowd at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Bishop O'Dowd knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Piedmont likes a good challenge. San Leandro has already played their next matchup (against Berkeley), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
