Softball Recap: Mankato West Gets the Win

While Mankato West's win against Red Wing wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Scarlets had just enough and edged out the Wingers 5-4 on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Scarlets in their matchups with the Wingers: they've now won seven in a row.

Cora Aanenson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Taylor Fitzloff, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lydia Banse, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.

Mankato West's win bumped their record up to 14-5. As for Red Wing, they now have a losing record of 6-7.

Coming up, Mankato West will face off against Winona at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games the Hawks have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Red Wing, they will challenge Owatonna at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
