Baseball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Maize

Maize had already won three in a row and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They came out on top against the Haysville Campus Colts by a score of 6-2. This was payback for the Eagles, who suffered a 2-0 loss the last time these two teams met.

Luke Ethridge tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits.

On the hitting side, Gavin Short was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Mario Lerma also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Maize hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in four consecutive games.

Maize pushed their record up to 14-6 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Haysville Campus, they moved to 14-4 with that defeat, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Maize will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Colts: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
