Softball Recap: Austin's Win Ends Three-Game Losing Streak on the Road

Austin's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They came out on top against the Byron Bears by a score of 7-4. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Packers also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Kaydence Schaefer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Charlee Cunningham, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. Lauren Bowe was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.

Austin's victory ended a three-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-1. As for Byron, their record now sits at 1-1.

Coming up, Austin will head out to challenge Winona at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Byron, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Chatfield at 4:30 p.m.
