Basketball Game Preview: Cripple Creek-Victor Pioneers vs. Deer Trail Eagles

The Cripple Creek-Victor Pioneers are taking a road trip to square off against the Deer Trail Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Deer Trail took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Cripple Creek-Victor, who comes in off a win.

Cripple Creek-Victor headed into their last game having not scored more than 30 points for six straight, but Colorado School for the Deaf Blind let them put that streak behind them. Cripple Creek-Victor simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat Colorado School for the Deaf Blind 65-17. The victory was some much needed relief for the Pioneers as it spelled an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Dylan Reyes was nothing short of spectacular: he dropped a double-double on 27 points and 15 rebounds. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Lohmeier, who posted seven points in addition to six steals and three blocks.

Cripple Creek-Victor was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since the start of last season.

Meanwhile, Deer Trail was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 21st straight defeat dating back to last season. They had to suffer through a 65-29 loss at the hands of Stratton. While losing is never fun, Deer Trail can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 353rd, while Stratton is ranked 147th).

Deer Trail's loss dropped their record down to 0-13. As for Cripple Creek-Victor, their win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-9.

Everything came up roses for Cripple Creek-Victor against Deer Trail in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, as the team secured a 59-23 victory. In that matchup, Cripple Creek-Victor amassed a halftime lead of 35-14, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Thursday.
