Baseball Recap: Santa Fe Christian Comes Up Short

Santa Fe Christian fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Classical Academy on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Caimans by a score of 9-8. The Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Caimans earlier this season, when they won 2-0.

Riley Nelson was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in March.

At the plate, Kyle Plasman made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Santa Fe Christian: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-8 otherwise. Logan Moran was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Santa Fe Christian dropped their record down to 8-9 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Classical Academy, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 7-11 record.

While Santa Fe Christian had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
