Basketball Recap: Mt. Carmel Comes Up Short + How To Watch

Mt. Carmel had lost seven straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-1 to make it eight. They came up short against the Scripps Ranch Falcons, falling 93-72. The Sundevils were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Falcons apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2021.

When it comes to explaining why Mt. Carmel lost, don't look at Makai Orje. Despite the final result, he shot 56% from the field to rack up 18 points. Orje's big performance that evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Tommy Burian, who posted nine points and seven rebounds.

As for Scripps Ranch, their win bumped their record up to 1-0. They not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since December 28, 2024 (when they won 81-52).

Scripps Ranch got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ej Newman out in front who went 7-for-8 en route to 17 points and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew Corso, who shot 67% from the field on his way to 17 points and five assists.

Mt. Carmel has already played their next game, a 74-54 loss against Woodbridge on the 25th. As for Scripps Ranch, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 79-59 defeat against Mission Hills on the 22nd.
