Fitzgerald hasn't had much luck against Lamphere recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Spartans will head out to challenge the Rams at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Fitzgerald took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Lincoln a 20-0 shutout. Considering the Spartans' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Lydia Yokel made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Yokel was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-2. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Aziya Marks was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. CaSaundra Smith was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-1.
Meanwhile, Lamphere made easy work of Cardinal Mooney Catholic on Monday and carried off an 18-2 victory.
Like Fitzgerald, Lamphere also got a great game from a two-way player: Brooke Harrison (2025). On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Harrison (2025) was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Lamphere got a massive performance out of Paige Oltersdorf, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Aliana Martinez (2026), who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Fitzgerald's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Lamphere, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
Lamphere's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Fitzgerald hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .432. It's a different story for Lamphere, though, as they've only averaged .241. Will they be able to contain Fitzgerald's hitters?
Fitzgerald might still be hurting after the 17-2 loss they got from Lamphere when the teams last played back in June of 2023. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
