Baseball Game Preview: Sheldon Huskies vs. Laguna Creek Cardinals

For the second straight game, Sheldon will face off against Laguna Creek. The Huskies will head out to challenge the Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Sheldon has now lost 12 straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 19.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Sheldon's offense. They came up short against Laguna Creek on Wednesday, falling 18-0. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 6, 2021, but that streak is no more.

For Laguna Creek's part, Dom Rivera looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Rivera has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Julian Pogue-Jasper was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Sam Stires was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Laguna Creek always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .610. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Laguna Creek is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Sheldon, their loss dropped their record down to 3-15.

Sheldon's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's game. The Huskies have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Laguna Creek, though, as they've been averaging only 0.6 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Sheldon continue to outrun the ball?
