Softball Recap: Ansonia Triumphs

Ansonia came out on top against Preble Shawnee on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fifth inning. The Tigers took their contest against the Arrows 7-3. The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Arrows: they've now won three in a row.

Bre Walker made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, Ansonia got a big performance out of Kylie Caldwell, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. That's the most hits Caldwell has posted since April 2nd. Lillian Perry was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Ansonia's win bumped their record up to 12-8. As for Preble Shawnee, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-8 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Ansonia will venture away from home to take on Union City at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Preble Shawnee, they will head out to challenge Newton Local at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
