Baseball Game Preview: Discovery Spartans vs. Lakeland Christian Vikings

The Discovery Spartans will venture away from home to take on the Lakeland Christian Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

On Monday, Discovery made easy work of Lake Placid and carried off a 12-6 victory. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Dragons recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

The team relied heavily on Evan Devore, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Aaron Chevere also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Discovery kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Lakeland Christian had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They put the hurt on the Dreadnaughts with a sharp 11-1 victory. With that win, the Vikings brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.

Carson Martin tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Gavin Byrd was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Brooks Blankenship was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-1.

Discovery's record now sits at 4-7. As for Lakeland Christian, their record now sits at 7-3.

Discovery might still be hurting after the 18-3 defeat they got from Lakeland Christian in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Can Discovery avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
