Basketball Recap: Bishop Mclaughlin Catholic's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

It was a good run, but Bishop McLaughlin Catholic unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 47-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hernando Leopards. The matchup marked the Hurricanes' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Bishop McLaughlin Catholic lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Alexavier Dorval-Ferris, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds. Dorval-Ferris is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Mekdeci, who posted seven points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Bishop McLaughlin Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Leading Hernando to victory were Sam Jackson and Michael Brown. Jackson dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds, while Brown put up 12 points and five steals. Those five steals gave Brown a new career-high. Daniel Merizalde was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.

Bishop McLaughlin Catholic's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-2. As for Hernando, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-3.

Bishop McLaughlin Catholic will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Keswick Christian at 7:30 p.m. on January 7th. Bishop McLaughlin Catholic is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.2 points per game this season. As for Hernando, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 77-33 victory against Spring Hill Christian Academy on the 28th.
