Baseball Game Preview: Wayne Pioneers vs. Hoover Huskies

Wayne and Hoover are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Pioneers will head out to face off against the Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with eight defeats in a row, Wayne turned things around against Tug Valley on Monday. They had just enough and edged out the Panthers 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Pioneers have posted since April 24, 2024.

Jacob Thompson was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Brady Dyer was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, Hoover entered their tilt with Lincoln County on Friday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Panthers a 4-0 shutout.

Gabe Blackwell looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Braydon Bounds, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

The victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 4-14. As for Hoover, their record is now 11-8.

Wayne couldn't quite get it done against Hoover when the teams last played back in March as they fell 10-6. Can the Pioneers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
