Baseball Game Preview: Fairfield Eagles vs. Mexia Black Cats

The Fairfield Eagles are taking a road trip to square off against the Mexia Black Cats at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Fairfield's pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so Mexia's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Fairfield fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Teague on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 10-7 to the Lions. The Eagles' defeat signaled the end of their 14-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, Mexia got the win against Westwood on Thursday by a conclusive 15-5. The result was nothing new for the Black Cats, who have now won seven games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Adriano Mendoza was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over six innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aaden Cargile, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Mexia is undefeated when Cargile posts two or more runs, but 5-12 otherwise. Gabe Solis was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Fairfield's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 10-1 and their overall record down to 16-3. As for Mexia, their victory ended an eight-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 8-12.

Everything went Fairfield's way against Mexia in their previous meeting on April 1st, as Fairfield made off with a 10-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
