Softball Recap: Burgettstown Wins Going Away Against Carlynton

Burgettstown came out on top against Carlynton on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive ten-run fourth inning. The Blue Devils blew past the Cougars 18-1. Considering the Blue Devils have won seven contests by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Brooklyn Robinson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Layla Sherman, who fired off three home runs and seven RBI while going 3-for-4. Those three home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Andi Midler, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Burgettstown lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Burgettstown has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Carlynton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-9.

Coming up, Burgettstown will head out to take on Our Lady of the Sacred Heart at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Carlynton, they will take on Chartiers-Houston at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
