Baseball Recap: Mt. Gilead Takes a Loss

Mt. Gilead fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Cardington-Lincoln on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 4-3. The Indians' loss continues a trend for the team, making it eight in a row.

Cole Fricke spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Hayden Somerlot made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times he's played.

Mt. Gilead's defeat dropped their record down to 3-16. As for Cardington-Lincoln, their win bumped their record up to 11-2.

While Mt. Gilead had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
