Basketball Recap: Lanier Extends Winning Streak to Three

Lanier waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Florence Eagles by a score of 52-42. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked fifth, while the Eagles are ranked 44th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, Florence still got an impressive performance from Kayne Ashley, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 12 boards. Ashley is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down nine or more in each of the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jaboris Buckley, who posted eight points and six assists.

Lanier's win bumped their record up to 15-3. As for Florence, their loss dropped their record down to 11-4.

Looking ahead, Lanier will head out on the road to challenge Vicksburg at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs will need to watch out since the Gators have now posted at least 55 points in their last four contests. As for Florence, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Holmes County Central at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles' defense better be ready for this one: the Jaguars have averaged an impressive 55.2 points per game this season.
