Football Recap: Carlinville's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Carlinville extended their winning streak to five on Friday, bumping them up to 5-1. They came out on top against Litchfield/Mt. Olive by a score of 48-35. That's more bragging rights for the Cavaliers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Leading Carlinville to victory were Tate Duckels and Kip Reels. Duckels picked up 154 receiving yards and two scores, while Reels threw for 249 yards and three TDs while completing 90% of his passes. Those 249 passing yards gave Reels a new career-high.

Carlinville was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 265 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 223 rushing yards in five consecutive contests.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Carlinville's defensive line and their three sacks. Noah Convery refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself.

As for Litchfield/Mt. Olive, they dropped their record down to 0-6 with the loss, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 420th, while Carlinville is ranked 153rd).

Despite the loss, Litchfield/Mt. Olive still got an impressive performance from Ethan Saathoff, who rushed for 123 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 132 yards and a pair of TDs. Max Leitschuh was in the mix as well, providing Litchfield/Mt. Olive with one score.

Carlinville wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 43-10 victory against Southwestern on the 10th. As for Litchfield/Mt. Olive, they have also already played their next game, a 35-21 defeat against Hillsboro on the 10th.
