League recap: Overton extends winning streak with victory over Southwest

D1 District 9 (8 Man) recap October 1, 2013

Overton added to the longest winning streak in D1 District 9 (8 Man) this week by beating Southwest, 55-8. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Eagles.

Alma and Ansley/Litchfield played the most contested game in the league this week, with Alma eventually emerging with a 22-18 victory. Chris Simmons threw for 74 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 53 yards in the win.

Nic Crowley made the biggest impact on defense this week as Elm Creek topped Arapahoe. The 6-foot-2 junior.

Caden Weverka provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Warriors lost to the Buffaloes. He completed 7 passes for 73 yards and also ran for 183 yards.

Weverka was the best running back in the league this week. In 35 carries, he ran for 183 yards as Arapahoe defeated the Warriors. Teammate Brennan Koller added to the ground attack by rushing for 23 yards.

The most important game in D1 District 9 (8 Man) this week will be the match up between Dustin Sealey's team and Overton. The Warriors comes into the matchup ranked 18th in the state, while Paul Heusinkvelt's team ranks fifth.

Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Arapahoe takes on the Eagles. The Warriors' offense has racked up 222 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while Overton has allowed only 42 on the year.

There should be lots of points scored when Arapahoe and the Eagles face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Warriors comes in having scored 222 this season, while Overton has scored 214. Arapahoe scored 22 points last week as it lost to Elm Creek.

The Roughriders fell to the Eagles 55-8 last week, the largest margin of any game. Trevor Van Pelt threw for 56 yards and ran for 61 yards in the defeat.
