Baseball Recap: Clayton Triumphs

Clayton made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Cleveland, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Comets' pitchers stepped up to hand the Rams a 9-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Comets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by nine runs or more this season.

Davis Duty looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jennings Dunlap was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Gannon Johnson, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Clayton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cleveland only managed three hits.

Clayton now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Cleveland, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-6.

Clayton and Cleveland should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. The Comets (ranked 215th) will meet Smithfield-Selma (ranked 482nd) at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Cleveland will take on Clayton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (69 vs. 215).
