Softball Recap: Milford Spartans vs. Laconia Sachems
Milford extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 6-5 in the process. They fell 10-5 to the Laconia Sachems. The Spartans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Sachems apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.
Mya Coombs made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Arabelle Danforth, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
As for Laconia, they pushed their record up to 7-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games.
On Laconia's side, Kaydence Stinson was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. Stinson has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Laconia got a big performance out of Kaitlyn Durfee, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Durfee is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Olivia Cotnoir, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Milford is set to square off against their familiar foe Hollis-Brookline at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Laconia will challenge rival Kingswood at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
