Basketball Game Preview: Newberry Panthers vs. Trenton Tigers + Official Tickets

The Newberry Panthers will take on the Trenton Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Newberry knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully Trenton likes a good challenge.

It was a proper cat-fight when Newberry challenged Columbia on Tuesday. The Panthers blew past the Tigers 72-30. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won three in a row.

Newberry relied on the efforts of Brandy Whitfield, who posted 24 points in addition to six steals and five assists, and Destiny Neal, who earned 24 points. Whitfield's big performance that evening made it 27 games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Rihanna Chiever was another key player, putting up seven points.

Meanwhile, Trenton came up short against P.K. Yonge on Tuesday and fell 58-50.

Trenton's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Newberry, their win bumped their record up to 5-0.

Newberry strolled past Trenton in their previous meeting back in December of 2024 by a score of 67-50. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
