Basketball Recap: Cotopaxi Pirates vs. Lake County Panthers

Cotopaxi entered their contest against Lake County on Saturday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Cotopaxi Pirates were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 46-45 to the Lake County Panthers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Pirates of the 64-62 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.

Despite the loss, Cotopaxi still got an impressive performance from Terrance Evans, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 12 boards. Evans is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down nine or more in each of the last three games he's played. Lake County had a senior duo take command as Jaxon Wood dropped a double-double with 12 points and 13 boards and Isaiah Martinez posted 18 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Martinez has scored at least a third of Lake County's points. Another player making a difference was Canaan Hall, who scored five points.

Cotopaxi suffered their first home defeat, dropping their record down to 15-4. As for Lake County, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-12 record this season.

Cotopaxi will challenge Cripple Creek-Victor at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Lake County, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 62-61 victory against Arrupe Jesuit on the 24th.
