Baseball Recap: Geneseo Comes Up Short

Geneseo extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 8-12 in the process. They came up short against the Dunlap Eagles, falling 13-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Maple Leafs have suffered since March 27th.

As for Dunlap, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games.

For Dunlap's part, Landon Gray looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Gray has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Davis Weeks, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Gavin Gibbs was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

Coming up, Geneseo will head out to face off against Pleasant Plains at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Dunlap, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Rock Island at 4:30 p.m. The Rocks will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight.
