Basketball Recap: East Coweta Comes Up Short

East Coweta lost against Newnan back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The East Coweta Indians were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 46-45 to the Newnan Cougars.

Despite the defeat, East Coweta had strong showings from Kieara Lugo, who posted 21 points along with six boards and three steals, and Rihanna Reams, who scored six points and 12 rebounds. Lugo's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ariana Simmons, who had five points in addition to six boards and five steals.

Even though they lost, East Coweta smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in five consecutive matchups.

East Coweta's loss dropped their record down to 12-11. As for Newnan, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 12-11.

Looking ahead, East Coweta will square off against Westlake at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Newnan, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 79-33 defeat against Langston Hughes on the 7th.
