Volleyball Recap: Spencer County Comes Up Short

Spencer County and Ballard faced off in a Battle of the Bears on Thursday. The Bears came up short against the Bruins, falling 3-0. The Bears have struggled against the Bruins recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

The match finished with set scores of 25-11, 25-7, 25-9.

Ballard's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Megan Helander led the charge by getting 14 digs and three assists. Helander is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 14 or more in each of the last five games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ruby Tennen, who had 12 assists and four aces.

Spencer County's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Ballard, they pushed their record up to 2-0 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.

Coming up, Spencer County will challenge Bullitt East at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Ballard, they will take on Eastern at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
