Baseball Recap: Bennington Continues Home Dominance on Thursday

Bennington is still undefeated this season after their contest against Gretna on Thursday, but Gretna came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Badgers never let the Dragons get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory. Two seems to be a good number for the Badgers as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Bennington got a great performance from Houston Hill as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 6.1 innings pitched. Hill has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Bennington saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hunter Spencer, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Morgan Schuman was another, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Bennington's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-0. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 3.4 runs across that stretch. As for Gretna, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Bennington is set to challenge their familiar foe Waverly at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Badgers 2.1, the Vikings 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Gretna will square off against rival Standing Bear at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
