Basketball Recap: Gateway Skates Past Jones with Ease

It's playoff time, and Gateway had no trouble coming through when it counted. They blew past the Jones Fightin' Tigers, posting a 53-19 victory. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 18 contests by 20 points or more this season.

Leading Gateway to victory were Ashlynn Day and Evana Rivera. Day almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine boards, while Rivera dropped a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Day is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least four every time she's taken the court this season. Alyssa Marino was another key player, putting up seven points and six assists.

The win made it two in a row for Gateway and bumps their season record up to 20-5. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 19.0 points over those games. As for Jones, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-8.

Coincidentally, Gateway and Jones will both be playing New Smyrna Beach the next time they take the court. Gateway will head out to face New Smyrna Beach on Saturday, while Jones will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th.
