Jaquan Sanders named 2020-21 MaxPreps New York High School Basketball Player of the Year

Junior guard led Our Saviour Lutheran to 21 wins, Grind Session quarterfinals.

Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school basketball. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2020-21 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.

Jaquan Sanders of Our Saviour Lutheran (Bronx) is the 2020-21 MaxPreps New York High School Basketball Player of the Year. The 6-foot-3 junior guard helped the Falcons go 21-11 en route to the Grind Session tournament quarterfinals.

Sanders averaged 19 points, seven assists, four rebounds and two steals per contest while shooting 39 percent from 3-point range and 44 percent from the field overall.

Regarded as a three-star prospect according to 247Sports, Sanders hold offers from Bryant, Connecticut, Creighton, Hofstra, Illinois, Manhattan, Massachusetts, Seton Hall, St. John's and Xavier.

Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which is scheduled to be released April 13.
