The Dansville Mustangs will challenge the Keshequa Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Dansville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.3 runs per game this season.
Dansville barely beat Hornell the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mustangs were the clear victors by an 11-5 margin over the Red Raiders on Monday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.
Jake Kreiley was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Kreiley was also big at the plate, earning one run and two stolen bases.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mark Sick, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. Dawsyn Mistretta was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Dansville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Keshequa is still undefeated this season after their contest against Letchworth on Thursday, but Letchworth came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Indians came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 9-8 W against the Legends. While the Indians didn't have the best season last year (they finished 1-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Like Dansville, Keshequa also got a great game from a two-way player: Ryan Fox. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs but no hits. Fox was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs.
In other batting news, Brady Wood was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Aiden Howe, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Keshequa's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-0. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 9.8 runs this season. As for Dansville, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 4-2.
Dansville's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's match. The Mustangs have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Keshequa, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Dansville continue to outrun the ball?
Dansville came out on top in a nail-biter against Keshequa when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 11-9. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
